VICTORIA — Horrified nature-lovers at Goldstream Provincial Park watched as the Goldstream River turned bright green late Wednesday afternoon. The fluorescent green colouring appeared to start about 500 metres on the Victoria side of the entrance to the park and, over the course of an hour, the substance flowed down into the environmentally sensitive estuary. By 5:30 pm the river, known for its dramatic salmon runs, eagles and other wildlife, was back to its normal colour. Ministry of Environment teams were immediately sent to the area to investigate and members of Langford Fire Department collected samples for analysis. No dead fish or animals had been found by early evening. Earlier in the day a fountain beside Veterans Memorial Parkway in Langford also turned bright green, said Langford Fire Chief Bob Beckett. This very close to the ship that is parked in the port near the area that had a nuclear waste spill in it’s hull as it was headed to China. Gale force winds caused the spill & forced the ship to return to port. It has been sitting just off shore. Ppl were told there was no danger & not to be worried. Well, I wonder what the ppl are thinking about the ship’s spill now?! Could this have gone thru the hull? Or did someone dump the waste intentionally in2 the water ways?! bunch of psychopaths!

Just so everyone knows, testing confirmed that it was “fluorescein”, a non-toxic chemical used in plumbing to find leaks. Apparently only a few drops are needed for normal testing purposes, so it’s assumed that a prankster just dumped a bunch upstream and it mixed quickly. It’s the same thing that they used to use in the Chicago River for St. Patrick’s Day before a switch to some other dye. Why do I know? Because this is actually MY video. Nice conspiracy theories though.

Saint Patrick’s Day is correct. Scientist finally found out why the water is green. Someone put the NOT TOXIC substance FLUORESCEIN into the river (which is used to dye the Chicago river on St. Patrick’s Day, too). There have not been any dead fish or birds.

they sell flourocsein at hiking shops. It’s used as a flare gun from what I heard.
MSN news said it was caused by a fluorocsein spill. The chemical is non-toxic and is used in fluorescent angiograms and put into septic tanks to test for leakage.
